Mid lab session
I was a participant in the Low Food Lab Mycelium, an inspiring environment that encouraged creativity and innovation. During this program, I challenged myself to design a sustainable product, pushing my boundaries as a designer. The experience sparked new ideas and deepened my interest in circular design. It was a truly motivating journey that helped me grow both professionally and personally.
The first step in my design process was exploring mycelium and the different ways it can be used. I started by growing mycelium at home, using broken mushrooms that I foraged in the woods. It was fascinating to see how the mycelium grows and the different stages it goes through. I also experimented with different bases, such as turmeric and beetroot.
Next, I began creating new materials using ABUNDA®. I made paper by pressing ABUNDA®. I crafted leather by drying it. I even grew mycelium on top of the ABUNDA®. Additionally, I used ABUNDA® for stamping to create graphic prints. Next, I started growing mycelium by mixing it with an agricultural byproduct, which led to the creation of a painting and a candle holder.
These experiments gave me new insights, inspiring me to combine ABUNDA® and mycelium into a mushroom-shaped lamp made from actual mushrooms. I mixed ABUNDA® with glue and dried it, then grew the lamp stand using a mycelium and wood mix, incorporating an electrical cable inside. This project allowed me to merge my passion for interior design with my commitment to sustainable solutions.
